“Little Red Walking Hood” the trailblazing cartoon

via Classic Cartoons blog
This was Tex Avery’s first fairy tale cartoon. He’s even credited as Fred Avery rather than by his nickname of Tex. While this cartoon might not seem like a huge one, it really is, when you consider all that came after it.
“Little Red Walking Hood” came out in 1937. You probably remember another Tex Avery cartoon with Little Red Riding Hood called “Red Hot Riding Hood” from 1943. This first cartoon set the stage for the latter, including several characters that would get more refined as time went on.

Red Riding Hood changed quite a bit, though she’s not too far off from the younger version of Red Riding Hood found at the start of “Red Hot Riding Hood”.

The wolf evolved past the Disney shorts looking wolf and into one of the character designs perhaps most associated with Tex Avery.
There is one more character evolution here as well. The character Egghead (this was only his second appearance) would change over time as well.

Egghead turned into Elmer Fudd within a few years of this cartoon.

You might as well mention that Red Hot Riding Hood was the model for Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988).
