http://www.youtube.com//watch?v=nCaz91u4-go The Happy Pumpkin was part of Fred-O-Ween not too long ago. Today someone posted a video response to The Happy Pumpkin on YouTube. The baby gets scared, but it looks like the power of the Happy Pumpkin overcomes the scary skull in short order.

Jerry Beck gets involved with all the books we want. The latest (and the second this month) is The Hanna-Barbera Treasury which is a compendium of the coolest collectibles from the coolest years of Hanna-Barbera Cartoons (basically from the 50s till the early 70s). There are thousands of neato illustrations, so it’ll be a fine fine holiday gift for your favorite freaks. [Read more…]
John Kricfalusi is one of the most driven creators of a creator driven cartoon. His series, “The Ren and Stimpy Show”, first aired in August of 1991. John K’s studio Spümcø was responsible for the first two years of the show. Nickelodeon was very concerned over the show’s content, which often featured a lot of violence and innuendo. While the content might be considered tame by today’s standards, the show was airing on the same network alongside “Doug” and “Rugrats”.
The show was taken from John K and Spümcø and given to Bob Camp and Games Animations. Bob was a part of Spümcø until September 21, 1992, when he left to work for Games Animations, a studio that Nickelodeon created to [Read more…]

I found this tour of Hanna Barbera on YouTube. I was in high school on the other end of the country at the time this video was shot, and now the building’s been converted to a gym, so this is as close as I will ever get.

I had fun exploring these characters and adding a little bit of me into their world. I was so excited because they wanted me to do my style(or one of them) for this piece.”
Carlos’ painting was so great it reminded me of how amazing Craig McCraken’s conception of his characters is. The first time Craig showed me the original film, then titled “The Whoopass Girls,” in a basement room at Hanna-Barbera, he was working on our show “2 Stupid Dogs” and one of [Read more…]
I recently found the website of Joe Murray. Joe Murray is the creator of “Rocko’s Modern Life”, which aired on Nickelodeon, and the Emmy Award Winning (and then CANCELED?!?) “Camp Lazlo”, which is running out it’s time on Cartoon Network.
One of the more interesting parts of Joe’s site is his journal. There are several entries in it, chronicling everything from show production to Joe shooting soy sauce on an executive from Cartoon Network. One of the more interesting entries in the journal comes from September:

Just had the weirdest meeting today with all of the creators and some people from Atlanta. I won’t go into detail, but it will go down in the history books as a turning point in television animation.
Hmmm? What could that mean? Joe mentions a few times in his journal that he is working on an independent film as well as a new series idea. [Read more…]
