The Powerpuff Girls 10th.
Carlos Villagra joined Channel Frederator RAW a couple of weeks ago, and his first blog post is a great one about the really cool illustration he did for the 10th anniversary of The Powerpuff Girls:
“They wanted a dark edgy illustrations depicting the girls in battle with a monster. I gotta say this was a lot of fun and the dudes at cartoon where a real pleasure to work with. I had fun exploring these characters and adding a little bit of me into their world. I was so excited because they wanted me to do my style(or one of them) for this piece.”
Carlos’ painting was so great it reminded me of how amazing Craig McCraken’s conception of his characters is. The first time Craig showed me the original film, then titled “The Whoopass Girls,” in a basement room at Hanna-Barbera, he was working on our show “2 Stupid Dogs” and one of our development executives thought his cartoon might work for my What A Cartoon! shorts program. She sure was right. I said “yes” right there (before we went through the formal process a few months later) and was sure Craig was onto something special. I didn’t realize just how special.
Thanks Carlos. And thanks Craig.
