Siggraph - Autodesk Meeting and Party
If you do CG animation, then you more than likely use an Autodesk program in some capacity. Last night I attended their 2007 User Group Meeting and party.
In addition to announcing Motion Builder 2008, Maya 2008 (notice the new numbering system), they showed off some upcoming software called Project Sextant. It looked like a very powerful pre-vis tool.
The after party was held on the Midway, an aircraft carrier docked in San Diego. There were fireworks to show people where the party was at (in case you couldn’t see the huge ship), an open bar, snacks, and lots of entertainment. It was a big change from the party at last year’s Siggraph, which was held outside on a lawn near the meeting site.
Cafe FX was a co-host of the party. Their work on “Pan’s Labyrinth” was incredible, and I’m looking forward to whatever they create next.
I also had a few interesting conversations with animation great Tom Sito. Be sure to watch for his “Car Talk” project on PBS next year.
More to follow!
