Boxhead & Roundhead - On the Run, A Channel Frederator Featured Film

June 26th, 2007

Elliot Cowan is a very talented animator from Australia, now living and working in London. His popular shorts featuring an odd little duo named Boxhead and Roundhead are extremely well done and powerful in their quiet simplicity. Bhead & Rhead are what would happen if you combined Abbot & Costello with the DNA of Abstract art, add a touch of silent filmism on top of that and mix to fine cake batter of Awesomeness.
Elliot took the time out of his busy schedule to answer a few of our Channel Frederator questions. Thanks Elliot.

TV Party Tonite!

Man, I loves me some Cartoons. I have one problem though.
I don’t have a TV.
Well, I do… but what I mean by that is I don’t have cable nor do I get “regular” stations as well.
The TV in my living room sits dejected, collecting dust and cobwebs, serving primarily for playing an occasional Video Game or DVD.
I don’t watch TV anymore.
I watch my computer.
I watch my Ipod.
Thank heavens for the creation of podcasts, for networks allowing their “television shows” to be downloaded and viewed, and thanks for Itunes for sure, where we can pick and choose all this great, free content at our fingertips.
Long gone are the days of getting home from flipping burgers, flipping on the tv, and flipping through channels on the couch.
My thumb isn’t in pain anymore.
These days, I can watch MY “TV” anywhere. On the subway, at the park, in line at the post

With the anxious release of Apple’s so called revolutionary iPhone, joyoftech released this hilarious illustration that seems to me to be something that could actually happen.

“Surf’s Up: The Art and Making of a True Story”

June 26th, 2007

After reading about this book from a post by devourax on Animation Nation, I went out and picked it up. “Surf’s Up: The Art and Making of a True Story” is the best making of book I have seen.

The book has the usual making of stuff: pre production sketches, color studies, screen shots from the animator’s workstations, etc. This book also has a DVD which contains a short behind the scenes film. Normally you would have to wait for the DVD release of the film itself to see such an insightful piece. The DVD is worth the price of the book alone.

If you haen’t done so, go see “Surf’s Up” in the theater, and then go to the book store to see “Surf’s Up: The Art and Making of a True Story”. This is the best making of book I have ever seen. I wish more films got this sort of [Read more…]

Catch-up at Pulp Secret.

June 25th, 2007

I just realized I hadn’t brought you up to date on changes over at Pulp Secret, hopefully for the better.

First up, we’ve got a great weekly review broadcast, A Comicbook Orange, from Casey McKinnon and Rudy Jahchan, auteurs extraordinaire from over at the great videoblog Galacticast. There’s been a big response to the three episodes so far (I’ll post them all below). If you’re the kind who wants to know the best of the week, check it out.

And that’s not all! Alex, Pete and Justin from the Pulp Secret Report host a weekly get together in New York called Comic Book Club, where they geek out in front of a live audience every week. For all of us who’ve attended it feels like the comic conversations we all have whenever our wives or significant others aren’t around. We enjoy CBC so much we thought we’d try and do a studio version. [Read more…]

Cristina Paulos is an artist/animator out of Las Vegas, Nevada soon to move to New York.
Her and I both met at Calarts in Character Animation, and have become collaborators in the Las Vegas Art Scene as the incredible duo of art fantasticness known as the Double Date Collective. I’ve always loved her film, Rid, which made it’s debut on Channel Fred last week. So I was very happy when she submitted her film to us. Thanks Cristina!
