John K. in the Onion!

June 20th, 2007

In an effort to find a so-so article of Tom Kenny discussing what it’s like to voice Spongebob [as seen in the latest issue of the Onion in paper form], I found this great interview with John Kricfalusi on the Onion.com HERE.

One excerpt:
[on animating his own version of Yogi Bear:]
I was a little kid when those were appearing on television, and I used to stare at them and draw them while watching them on TV. I used to write my own stories and everything. Then when I was a teenager, I started making fun of the cartoons and would do my own weird, caricatured versions of them. I would do dirty versions of them. I’d fill all my textbooks with dirty stories of The Flintstones and do flipbooks, and I’d amuse all my friends. So I showed some of this stuff to Fred Seibert when he took over Hanna-Barbera in the early ’90s. He said, “Why don’t you make some of those cartoons? That’s a cool idea.” (Laughs.)

Fred is a mastermind.

Fred is brilliant.

John K declined my invitation for a Channel Frederator interview. I would have liked to ask some of the harder questions that aren’t usually asked in these types of interviews. Oh well.

Floyd - You should post the questions here and we can answer them for John. Like so:

FLOYD BISHOP: Why do you routinely target and slam Brad Bird’s work?

JOHN KRICFALUSI: Crab! Bitch! Moan! I am so great! La-la-la! Can’t hear you! Everyone is stupid except me! Crab! Whine! Piss! Vinegar! Sick ‘em, Stephen!
