“Cats Don’t Dance” - One of the best animated films no one has seen
If you ask someone for a list of their favorite animated films, or even a list of animated films, you don’t often hear about “Cats Don’t Dance”.
“Cats Don’t Dance” is a 1997 animated family feature film; the only animated feature produced by the short-lived Turner Entertainment animation unit. It was distributed to theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film is set in a world where human beings and anthropomorphic animals live side-by-side, and focuses on a character named Danny who wants to break into show business in Hollywood but is hindered by the fact that he is a cat. The film features the voices of Scott Bakula and Jasmine Guy, and was the directorial debut of former Disney animator Mark Dindal. It is also notable for Gene Kelly’s contributions as choreographer; it was his final film project.
If you are a fan of animation, you need to watch this film. There is a liot of nice stuff in there. The film doesn’t deserve to be lost.

I’ve always loved the design on that little girl. Her shape and movement is wonderful.

THANK you for giving respect to this much-overlooked, hilarious film! Like Emperor’s New Groove, it’s another of Mark’s missed treasures.

It was last year that I got to see the whole film for the first time. And it was pretty good, with nice animation.
Someone has to bring these kind of movies back to the theaters.
Ya know, besides Disney.

I have always loved the look and pace of this film. Every character moves in perfect sync with every facet of their identity. I think I loved the gorilla bodyguard best.

I remember when I worked for WB Studios Stores in the mid/late 90s, we got back from overseas the original drawings and backgrounds to the film (no cels). Of course, there was next to zero public interest in original production art from the movie (although we recreated some art for a few buyers). I sure wish now I would’ve stolen some of that art. I’m not sure where it is now.

Wait! I also remember handing Don Knotts a stack of production drawings of the turtle character he voiced when he came to the WB office to sign a Mr Limpet limited edition cel we produced (that no one bought).
