“And I’ll form… the HEAD!” - re-used animation sequences

February 23rd, 2007

If you’ve ever seen an episode of Voltron, any episode, then you’ve seen this bit of animation. They used it every time they needed to form Voltron.

What other famous (or infamous) re-uses of animation can you think of? I’m not talking about walk cycles that go on and on, opening credits, or Yogi running past the same two trees over and over. I’m wondering what other shows used entire sequences of animation over and over?

I’m not surprised that they use this type of animatoin over and over. Why reanimate the same action over and over and over again? I know in Danny Phantom they started out with a slow transformation with a turnaround and everything and then went to just the beam of light quickly running over his body. Jake also posted about something like this with disney. http://newtoons.frederator.com/post/2940 .

I do recall Filmation doing this to excess on many series, animated and live-action. Fat Albert had group scenes of the laughing kids and anytime they had a musical number, be assured the same sequences were in use. Flash Gordon had a few, specifically whenever Flash’s ship would take off/land it had a highly detailed shot of the underside of the ship advancing/retreating. It could’ve been actually taken from rotoscoped footage from the live-action Space Academy series with it’s reused takeoff/landing of it’s Seeker ship.

And by the way, the Voltron sequence had lions in the first season and various vehicles that composed the robots’ body, so your statement is only partially true.

I think an almost every show that included a transformation sequence, they used the same clip several times.

We make a series here in NZ called Sparkle Friends (a 3min ep a week for a NZ kids variety show)and one of our characters, Gungi, spews on things to make them “better”, in the first series we used the same spew sequence everytime he chucked. Was kinda meant as a throwback to voltron/he-man etc but in the end it saved us heaps of time ;). Check them out there’s even a voltron spoof ep….cue self promotion. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=mukpuddy+sparkle+friends
