Episode 68

An imaginative girl in a sewing factory abandons routine for a colorful journey. I first remember seeing this film at the Producer’s Show at Cal Arts. I understand the underlying meaning of the piece, but I was curious as to what inspired Daron to write the film.

Says Daron, “Well the idea stems from a few things. Part of it is the way I felt being in a situation I felt hopeless and stuck in until I made the choice to leave (high school), part of it was inspired from a recent class I had taken on Mexico and California and particularly how the two relate to Los Angeles’ history. Part was from being in the fashion district in downtown Los Angeles. I guess that was the base and the rest just kind of came together. Scissors is my first animated film, made during my first year at CalArts. I animated it in charcoal, the coloring was done in photo shop.”

Terrific job, Daron!

It was imaginative & beautiful, a breath of fresh air in a paradigm of computer generated animation.
