“Anfan Anzufangen”, submitted by Alexander Gellner: A Channel Frederator Featured Film

Episode 65

I have no idea what the singer on this video was saying. All I know is that somehow, deep inside, the tune was catchy, and I caught the word “shiezer”, which I think is a naughty word in German. Take a listen and see if you hear it. The band is a german hiphop act called SDP standing for “Stoned Deaf Production”. Heavy.

I contacted the filmmaker, Alexander Gellner about his film, and he never returned my email. Darn! I was curious to see what went through his mind when he made this music video. Alex, if you’re out there, let us know!

You can find the lyrics on the interweb. Google search is a great thing but Google translations couldn’t do much with this song! Based on my high school German from long ago, he says it’s hard to get started, but if you don’t you won’t ever do anything worthwhile.

“Barsch” in the cartoon is a fish (perch) and it’s a pun on the line from the refrain “Beweg dein Arsch” — “move your ass!”

This a kind of motivation song. It’s hard for a lot of people to do a first step because they don’t have the energy to start new things. Roughly translated “Der Anfang anzufang’n ist hart” means “It’s hard to make a start”. But if you don’t start and dream all day long, you’ll end as a gas station attendant without a lot of girlfriends. So: “Move your ass!” (”Beweg dein’n Arsch”)

@Melissa
Yeah, “Scheisse” (”shiezer”) is a nasty German word. ;-) The meaning of “Jeder schiebt die Scheisse vor sich her” is “Everyone avoids his own sh*t” (instead of get rid of it).

I’m sorry for my bad English.

JT and Olaf, your translations have made my day. I knew there was a reason I loved this song, even though I didn’t understand a word.
