Tom Sito and “Drawing the Line”
This week, ArrayTom Sito[/link], industry veteran and former President of the Hollywood Animation Guild Local 839 IATSE, spoke at a Barnes and Nobel here in NYC. While I’ve yet to glance over the pages of his new book “Drawing the Line: The Untold Story of the Animation Unions from Bosko to Bart Simpson”, I can already recommend it as a great read.
Tom gave his audience an incredible retrospective of unions in the animation industry. He not only discusses different strikes and actions, but also what made them happen, what was going on in the world at the time, and what the result was. He was also able to provide a lot of insight on more recent union happenings as an animator involved, or the president of the Animation Guild.
If you have any interest in the history of the animation industry or how unions came to be today, definitely check out Tom’s book. Also check out an excellent overview and review of his book at Jim Hill Media and Michael Sporn’s coverage of the event on his blog. I also nabbed the above photo from Tom’s blog, who nabbed it from Michael’s blog. So thanks to both Tom and Michael.
