Miles Thompson is a Frederator Alum who made a successful jump from the Animation Industry into the world of Art. In between freelancing and painting like a madman, he took the time to give us a few A’s to a few CH.FRED Q’s.

CH.F: What are some of your hobbies outside the world of animation?
MT: I love hiking and surfing - cooking is pretty cool too - we have 4 dogs we love - I collect records and have more music than Napster ever will…

What kind of music are you into? What’s on the Miles Jukebox rotation these days?
Do you listen to music while you paint?

(*Editors note- This Question warranted it’s own Post all together. Miles takes his music very seriously! Be on the Look-Out!)

Do you have a family?
I do - I have one little girl who is sweating on a playground at school this very second, and I am married to a wonderful, supportive, beautiful wife who I don’t deserve. She’s on a plane coming home from NY right now - I miss them and without them both, I’m but a miserable lump like any other smelly man.

You are a father now, has that changed your perspective on animation or art in anyway?
I can’t relate to people or artists who aren’t parents anymore - to me 99% of all people without kids are hungry cows in a green field that won’t eat unless they are served filet mignon - most people won’t ever glimpse animation’s potential - they’ll view Fantasia but not SEE it for what it is - yes my mind has been transformed by becoming a father.

What animation DVDs have you picked up lately?
I buy a LOT of animated features - anything by Disney, be it brand new, or from the vault - they are especially dear to my heart if they are older than I am, for some reason. My favorite short by Disney is “The Old Mill” and I was so glad to hear that it’s for sale on the itunes store for the video ipod.

My fav collection of animated cartoons on dvd is “Max Fleischer’s Color Classics: Somewhere in Dreamland” - it’ll charm the pants off of you – I’m putting it on right now as BG noise while I paint.

What animation websites do you check in on regularly?
I check out John K’s blog sometimes - he is sooo weird - other
than that, I can’t say that I DO check out animation sites - I’m too busy looking for amazing artists from bygone days to inspire …check this out:

It’s pretty extensive and I always marvel at the amount of work some of those folks were able to achieve in a lifetime … just crazy!

Is there anything you want to say to the people out there in CH.F Land reading this?
