Terry McGovern

October 31st, 2006

mcgovern_01_386x439.jpg

Earlier this month I had the honor of interviewing a high-flying hero of mine for a local website, AnimatorsUnite.com. Terry McGovern, as Launchpad McQuack, entered my after-school cartoon world in Ducktales and continued thoughout Darkwing Duck. Let’s face it - that character is just awesome. That’s why about 70 % of the interview is with Terry, and the other 30% is with Launchpad.

Click here to read the interview on AnimatorsUnite.com, and when you’re done there, feel free to read my other interviews by visiting my site at –JakeFriedman.net.

Happy Halloween! Enjoy this trip through the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland.

What does this have to do with animation? Much of the ride was designed by Disney animator Marc Davis.

Eric Pigors InterBOOO!!!

October 31st, 2006

portrait.jpg

“Unkle” Eric Pigors is Animation’s Best Kept Secret. Even if that secret was locked in a dark, damp, moldy basement and fed thru a tiny hole in the wall. Ol’ Unkle spent some quality time w/ Channel Fred and managed to answer a few questions inbetween poking us with sharp sticks and throwing bugs in our hair.

CH.F: How long have you been animating or drawing?
EP: Well, if I’m counting from childhood, a long, long time. But drawing on my own stuff, maybe 23 years. And about the same in the animation business, man, I feel old.

Jen Hager

October 30th, 2006

jenhagarrhinos.jpg

Jen Hager is a young story artist for Dreamworks. She is a whiz with rendering animals, both realistic and cartoony, that echoes any great illustrator with her grasp of form and contour. You think you know just how these creatures would feel like if you poked ‘em with your finger. Part of that has to do do with her quick and dead-on painting job.

Chanel Frederator Awards Art by Signe Baumane

October 30th, 2006

ipot-1.jpg

Just checked my mail this morning and saw that Channel Frederator Featured Filmmaker Signe Baumane sent a piece of robot art she likes to call “iPot”. Wonderful!

In case some of you are unfamiliar, Signe is one of New York’s leading independent animators. Her films have been featured in countless festivals (including the Nicktoons Network Animation Festival), and her work can also be seen on a DVD called “Avoid Eye Contact”.

Thanks for your pic, Signe. And for the rest of you procrastinators, the deadline is Nov. 8!

Check out the latest from Phil Nibbelink Productions: Romeo and Juliet: Sealed with a Kiss. Phil, a former Disney and Amblimation artist has worked on such feature films as The Fox and the Hound, Oliver and Company and An American Tail: Fievel Goes West.
In 1998, Phil and his wife started Phil Nibbelink Productions and went on to do some direct to video projects. In 2003, they began working on “Romeo & Juliet: Sealed with a Kiss”. The film was made in flash, based on Phil’s own hand drawings. They’ve finally seen their dream become reality as the movie launched this past Friday 10/27 in numerous Los Angeles area locations.
“Romeo & Juliet: Sealed with a Kiss” is the classic Shakespeare story performed under-sea with seals!

Check out the official site for the trailer, screen shots, and a list of locations where you can catch the flick.
