Lori Samsel: “Fan: A Love Story”
So where does a love story with a fan begin…?
Says Lori Samsel, “I wish I had an exciting story of how I came up with the idea, but I dont. I just got really hot.
Some days I had a hard time leaving the apartment because I knew I couldn’t take my fan with me. When I would go into the gritty sunny hot nyc summer world, I’d think of other ways to beat the heat… but always thinking of my fan. So much that drinking iced tea felt like cheating. I blamed the sun for this whole conflict. The idea came to me after solving my deep internal struggle of how to work the sun into my life including the fan. I’ve grown to respect the sun (the character actually grows because of the sun). and the fan’s right here and still works!
Some people ask me why the fan doesn’t have more personality and follow me around or something…but it’s just a fan. I’d freak out if it was following me around.
Fan was created on an animation disc using pencil and paper. I’d smudge the lines before scanning each drawing. I dont know how many drawings, but the stack stands about 2 feet high. Then I just upped the contrast to reveal the paper’s texture and voila! I have a million documents to sort out in AfterEffects!”

this cartoon wasnt very good… sorry, the drawings are good tho! i just think frederator needs a little spice in its life.. i love you frederator but you just dont make me laugh enough to have your little mini frederators.. i want strong strongbads babys
