Signe Baumane: “Five Infomercials For Dentists”
If the dentist’s office doesn’t make you cringe already, it will after watching these infomercials—specially tailored for an overly enthusiastic dentist. Says Signe, “I modeled the Patient after my son… When he was younger he always threw a scene at dentist’s; closed his mouth, screamed and bit the dentist’s fingers, or surrendered in a theatrical suffering….” Born in Latvia, Baumane moved to New York City in 1996. She has been teaching animation at Pratt University since 2000.
Signe is very involved in the independent animation scene in New York. I was fortunate enough to run into her at the Ottawa Film Festival last year, and went to the screening party for Avoid Eye Contact—a DVD series of fantastic animated films (Signe’s work is included on the DVD along with other Channel Frederator submitters Bill Plympton, Patrick Smith and others.) The work they contribute to the animation world is quite impressive.
Thanks Signe!
