Stash DVD Magazine: “Little Fella”

March 30th, 2006

littlefella.jpg

He’s cute, he’s strange, he’s a little scary… I had seen this clip of “Little Guy” going around the internet, and was very happy that our friends at Stash DVD Magazine submitted it to us.

The spot was created by Digital LIfestyle Group, and animated and directed by Tokyo Plastic Sound was composed by Nick Faber, and the short clip was composed entirely with AMD 64. Amazing what you can do with this new fangled computer technology and a little creativity.

Thanks everyone!

Tim Biskup: “Freddy Seymore’s Amazing Life”

March 30th, 2006

freddy-seymores-amazing-life.gif

Many of you probably know Tim Biskup as one of the great lowbrow artists of the decade.

Well, before his breakout in the art world, Tim created Freddy Seymore’s Amazing Life, a cartoon short at Frederator Studios and Nickelodeon. It features his trademark style and unique approach to character. Take this rare opportunity to get some insight on his early ambitions.

In addition to his cartoon creation, Tim was also the artist of choice for dozens of our Oh Yeah! Cartoons. Route around and see if you can figure out which of the dozens of our films he had a hand in.

Remember, you can watch all the Channel Frederator episodes by subscribing to the series over at iTunes or by downloading them from our website.

Thanks to Tim and to Nickelodeon for letting us show Freddy to the world.

Letters to Channel Frederator

This week, soggy England seems to be a hotbed for Channel Frederator e-mails. Andy from Leeds writes:
Your cartoons are brightening up a dreary, dull, cold, miserable day over here in Leeds, UK! Thanks to you for my ray of sunshine!

And from the chiman:

hey frederator
from wet, wet England-you brighten up our day-thankyou. but now I must eat pie for breakfast like RAMBO!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!

And from the rest of the world:

Congratulations, I bought an Ipod, and I didn’t know about the podcasts. Man, channelfrederator is gold material. You are the number one. I was tired [of] surfing in the Internet looking for cool animation. Keep going, meanwhile [I’m] gonna recomend to all my friends to see channelfrederator. Maybe in time win a place in some Episodie, jejeje. Regards from Guatemala, Central America.

Steven Scott: “Suburban Harmony”

March 29th, 2006

1734.jpg

When I saw this featured on Cold Hard Flash I knew I had to hunt down Steven Scott and see about featuring it on Channel Frederator. Not only did I like the animation, it turns out Steve is one of the musicians as well!

Says Steven, “The music is by the band I am in, Telemetry Orchestra. We were putting out an album in Australia and I decided that I wanted to do a video clip.
The character came first. One night I was doodling away in Illustrator and the Bowler Man just popped out pretty much as he ends up in the video. I’ve done quite a few clips which were narrative based and I really wanted to do something that was a bit more open and free, plus I wanted to do it in Flash. The idea was to do it quickly and just get it done. Unfortunately, I got [Read more…]

Like To Join Me For Lunch?

March 29th, 2006

200px-chefboyardeepic.jpg

If I had a dollar for every time as a kid (and adult, too) I asked “Like to join me for lunch?” all canine-like like the wolf in this week’s Channel Frederator vintage Chef Boy-ar-Dee ad, I’d have a LOT of dollars. Pass the mini-ravioli, please.

The Brothers McLeod: “The Snotasaurus”

March 24th, 2006

snotasaurus1.jpg

A Snotasaurus is on the loose! Watch out for Power Farts! Super Charlie and Super Lauren battle the snot spewing ’saurus!

What I like about The Brothers McLeod is that they produce in many different styles and sensibilities. There is an originality to all that they do, whether they’re using Flash animation, or hand drawn techniques. I noticed that some people are attempting to compare “Snotasaurus” to “Fuggy Fuggy”, which was featured on Episode 15. I think these are wildly different films, each one designed to appeal to a different age group, so it’s a tough comparisson.

Thanks guys for a terrific film once again.

Signe Baumane: “Five Infomercials For Dentists”

March 23rd, 2006

dentist024.jpg

If the dentist’s office doesn’t make you cringe already, it will after watching these infomercials—specially tailored for an overly enthusiastic dentist. Says Signe, “I modeled the Patient after my son… When he was younger he always threw a scene at dentist’s; closed his mouth, screamed and bit the dentist’s fingers, or surrendered in a theatrical suffering….” Born in Latvia, Baumane moved to New York City in 1996. She has been teaching animation at Pratt University since 2000.

Signe is very involved in the independent animation scene in New York. I was fortunate enough to run into her at the Ottawa Film Festival last year, and went to the screening party for Avoid Eye Contact—a DVD series of fantastic animated films (Signe’s work is included on the DVD along with other Channel Frederator submitters Bill Plympton, Patrick Smith and others.) The work they contribute to the animation world is quite impressive.

Thanks Signe!

Omanaman: “A Business of Flies”

March 22nd, 2006

abof_still.jpg

A Business of Flies is a freestyle animated journey through the lives of flies as they metamorphasize into humans and back. It is based on the epic novel “I Feel Like a Ham Sandwich” by Shay Biggenz. If the style looks vaguely familiar, it’s because Channel Frederator Episode 21 featured Omanaman’s “HELL Computers”.

Omanaman, AKA “Joe Shakula”, says this about his film: “A Business of Flies is pretty much just visual masturbation. I wanted to do some fun illustration and animation and I didn’t have a lot of time to think about it. I did it about 2 years ago and when I look at it now I’m not really sure what I was thinking, but I had fun.”

“Not sure what I was thinking…but had fun…” Sounds like a weekend in Vegas!

Thanks so much for your submission, Joe!

Episode 20 was an almost unanimous hit , and we got a really interesting mix of feedback on Episode 21.

Emerge seems to be the biggest hit of Episode 21:

This cartoon was a nice change. Something “different,” as they say in North Dakota. And elsewhere. 4. -xopher

Interesting but I wouldn’t watch it again like I would many other Frederator toons. -tuomime

Thats really awesome. Can i dowload the pinkies program? I found i liked the music too. -femur

Don’t worry Steve, we’re listening. As for the guy with his head on fire… come on, it’s free. What do you want? We don’t have an in-house pyrotechnist yet.
