“FAVE”

December 7th, 2005

front1.jpg

Okay, so this is little misleading. The above picture is not from the film “FAVE”, a short by Eric Rosner featured in this week’s Channel Frederator episode. It’s an illustration by Eric that I ripped off his site. In a personalized email sent straight to me, here’s what Eric had to say about “FAVE”:

“I created it all in maya…. I work as an animator in nyc…..I also created all the audio in garageband……everything was done on a mac.. Oh the compositing was in after effects.”

“FAVE” is not one of your grandma’s shorts. However, every time I see it I can’t look away (well, in that respect, it sort of is like one of your grandma’s shorts - heh).

Download Channel Frederator featuring “FAVE” here, or subscribe to the whole CF series through iTunes.

Thanks for the film, Eric.

“Zombies?”

December 6th, 2005

g4_03.jpg

It’d be geat to show this short at Halloween. A student film by Jonathan Ostos Yaber, “Zombies?” was completed in his animation program tenure at the Vancouver Film School. (Funny, how international: I’m here in the U.S., VFS is in Canada, and now Jonathan’s CG animating in Mexico City. For all I know, you could be reading this in Denmark.) However, since Halloween is so far away, we’re including “Zombies?” right now in our newest Channel Frederator episode, available for download here. Or, subscribe to the whole series by setting up iTunes for yourself. And don’t forget to vote.

Thanks for the film, Jonathan.

iTunes just re-instituted their Podcast Directory, and guess who’s Number 3?

“The Adventures of Trex: Blind Dater”

December 5th, 2005

If you’re into cool independent animation, posters, and illustration, then you don’t need me to tell you about Ward Sutton. But what you do need to know is that the first episode of Ward’s “Trex’ Flash series is the kick-off film in this week’s Channel Frederator show premiering tomorrow. (Actually, if you want to know more about Ward, too, read his bio on the Sutton Impact Studio site.)

This week’s CF episode is a good one, and you can download it here. Also, as always, you can subscribe to the whole series by signing up for iTunes.

Thanks for the film, Ward. And as a bonus for all you Smashing Peanuts fans out there, here’s a Sutton work from CMJ a few years back.

Any ideas for new ones? Let us know at VJ@channelfrederator.com.

“Mr. J. Russel”

December 2nd, 2005

russel_06.jpg

Well, I’ve got to tell you about one more film featured in this week’s Channel Frederator episode: “Mr. J. Russel” by Mr Wouter Sel of Belgium. Wouter’s a recent graduate of KASK, Hogeschool Gent. We first became aware of this student film of Wouter’s when he submitted it to Nextoons: The Nicktoons Film Festival where it was promptly turned away. You’ll know why the cartoon wasn’t quite a right fit for a Nickelodeon network after you take a look at it. And speaking of looking at it (which you should do immediately), you can do so by downloading it here or by subscribing to the whole series at iTunes.

Thanks for the film, Wouter.

“Email!!”

December 1st, 2005

email_final.jpg

Yet another really, really cool example of how I love being made aware of films which, having not been made aware of, my life would be less full. (Worst. Sentence. Ever. - ed.)

Mr Timothy Farrell Jr, according to his blog, is working towards his masters in animation at Savannah College of Art and Design where he has just earned a 4.0 for the third semester in a row. That feat, however, pales in comparison to the masterwork that is “Email!!”, Tim’s short film featured in this week’s episode of Channel Frederator. Funnier every time I watch it.

As always, download our show here, or subscribe to our show here.

Thanks for the film, Tim.

PopMatters.

December 1st, 2005

From a PopMatters review, November 30, 2005:

“A weekly downloadable anthology of short cartoons, Channel Frederator jumps onto the video podcasting bandwagon, takes hold of the reins, and steers it towards something more than the talking heads and awkward skits that comprise most of the current podcasting landscape.”

“Conehead”

December 1st, 2005

ss_conehead_4.jpg

Filmmaker Don Pan has a lot going on. When not busy at his day job doing CG modelling for Framestore in London, he’s busy making his own films. And when not busy making his own films, he’s busy submitting them to Channel Frederator. This week’s CF episode features “Conehead”, Don’s fantastic little short we first saw when it took home a prize at Stash Media’s Global Student Animation Awards earlier this year. Watch it (and give it a vote, too) at our Website or by subscribing to this fantabulous podcast over at iTunes (if you watch it through iTunes, you should still go back to our Website to vote - exercise your right).

Thanks for the film, Don.
