Another Week, Another Great CF Episode

November 30th, 2005

lesson-3.jpg

Showcased throughout our newest, shiniest Channel Frederator episode (available now) is a collection of “Timmy’s Lessons in Nature” shorts from A & S Animation in Florida. Submitted by filmmaker and author Mark Simon, the Timmy shorts also have the distinction as being the very first Grand Prize winner at the Nextoons: The Nicktoons Film Festival (the grand jury that year included Gabor Csupo, Eric Goldberg, and John K, so you can bet that Timmy’s AOK).

So go watch this week’s episode now, either through our Website, or by subscribing at iTunes (it’s free).

And thanks for the films, Mark.

Pen’ Pals

November 23rd, 2005

Before I take off for the holiday, I wanted to mention yet another film featured in this week’s Channel Frederator show.

“Pen’ Pals” is a teriffic short by our Canadian friend, Art Curry, who in the third person writes:

“Pen’ Pals is Art’s first short film. It has won awards at the Sarasota Film Festival and the Alberta Film and Television Awards for Best Short Animation. It has also been well received in numerous festivals across Canada and the United States as well as at screenings in far off places like Finland, Lithuania, Iran and Taiwan.”

Thanks for the film, Art. It’s a pleasure having it in the show.

As always, you can download Channel Frederator from our Website, or subscribe through iTunes (still free).

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

Meet Berd und Skwerl. A student film from CalArts graduate Julian Narino, “Berd und Skwerl” plays a big part in this week’s Channel Frederator episode. Up until a few days ago, Julian was in the next room creating backgrounds for Pen Ward’s Oh Yeah! short. Now he’s a bigshot over at Cartoon Network’s Andre 3000 project. Julian’s new Website is here. Thanks for the film, Julian.

You can see “Berd und Skwerl” as part of Channel Frederator on our Website and by subscribing over at iTunes (it’s free).

We’ve had a few “technical difficulties” uploading Episode 5 to our server. Since the ‘normal’ upload time is about five hours, you should be seeing it around 1-2am ET.

Sorry about that.

Tomorrow we premiere the fifth episode of Channel Frederator, chock full of cool cartoons. Featured among this week’s offering is Tom Neely’s “Don’t Pick on Me”, a Flash music video he produced for The Muffs. Here’s a bio submitted by Tom hisself:

Tom Neely is a painter, cartoonist, and animator living in Los Angeles. In 2004 he created the acclaimed anti-Bush political cartoon “Brother, Can You Spare a Job?”. His second cartoon, a music video made for The Muffs song “Don’t Pick On Me”, was selected for competition at the Ottawa ‘05 International Animation Festival. Recently, he published the comic book tuesday., the beginning of an untitled series of short-stories. Several of his paintings are featured in the American Illustration 24 annual published in November 2005, and he shows his work regularly in galleries in Los Angeles and San Francisco. He is currently working as a background painter for Nickelodeon’s The X’s while also writing new comics, [Read more…]

Many of our animation friends are thrilled for us, but hasten to add that they don’t have a video iPod so they can’t watch.

Subscriptions are free, and I just wanted you to know you don’t need a video iPod, or even iTunes to enjoy all the episodes (#5 is coming on Tuesday). Here are three ways to get Channel Frederator:

1. You can go to our website and download it directly to your computer from the links in the lower right column. [Read more…]

Our first ‘legit’ newspaper mention, in today’s Wall Street Journal (and congratulations to Ben Ross, who’s “Lunch Time” from Episode 2 was the only illustration in the article):

Mini Movies
Cellphone clips and video podcasts vie for Emmy awards as small-screen entertainment gets bigger

By JOHN JURGENSEN
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

Post-It-size entertainment is now Emmy material: In May, for the first time, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will present an award to a program created for computers, mobile phones or hand-held gadgets. Tiny screens are increasingly coveted spaces for TV companies. Next month, the producers of ABC’s “Lost” will begin shooting 22 two-minute “Lost Video Diaries,” available next year on Verizon’s on-demand video service, the companies say. But it’s not clear how profitable the venture will be: Yankee Group, a technology-research firm, estimates that only 1.2 million Americans pay to watch videos on their phones. Though made-for-mobile [Read more…]
