Max Wins Best Design in Channel Frederator Awards Episode 7

July 2nd, 2008

Today’s Channel Frederator Awards episode features our Best Design winner. We see a lot of amazing cartoons float through here and it was so difficult to choose nominees for this category.

Nina Paley’s “Sita Sings the Blues” trailer was a quick add to our list. The design on this film is truly unique, and Nina managed to find ways of fitting numerous different styles into the same cartoon. “Carlos, My Name Is Not” was the little film that could. This film oozes french influence. Musician Maxime Robin worked with illustrator Pascal Blanchet to create this super-swanky and hip music video. Finally, Dave Wasson was another must-have to our nomination list, and the one to take home the prize for “Max and the Pigeon Incident”!
An industry vet, Dave has had a hand in a countless number of cartoon series. My favorites include the “Max”(see the two “Max” cartoons in Channel Frederator Episodes 58 and 13) and [Read more…]

Also announced in today’s Channel Frederator Awards episode was the winner of our Vanguard Award, Dan Meth. This award is juried by the programming team at Channel Frederator and is designed to honor someone that’s doing something very new for animation. We decided that Dan Meth was an excellent candidate. Not only is he working in a completely modern style - all digital and able to do every aspect on his own, but he is doing it successfully. Below is an essay written by Herb Scannell in recognition of Dan’s award: [Read more…]

2008 CFAs

Next Tuesday, June 10, is the day we announce the winners of the 2008 Channel Frederator Awards. Just like in 2007 it was an embarrassment of riches, and I’m sure when you voted, just like all of us, it was hard making a decision in every category. We’re all lucky to have the greatest filmmakers in the world allowing us to share their cartoons on Channel Frederator.

A big disappointment this year is we’re not going to be able to meet as many of you in person as we’d like and hand out the Freddies in person. Logistical issues bolixed us up and we’re concentrating on delivering a great online event rather than a live party.

Please join us starting June 10 for the round up and announcement of all our great winners. We’ll start that day, and then two special episodes a week for the next four weeks, highlighting the winners [Read more…]

I’m going to be spreading some essays and art like pollen around the flower field that are the new Fredblogs for the next few days. I thought it would be fitting to start with Team Frederator, starting with the head honcho: Fred Seibert.
Take it away Fred!

Cartoons have always made me happy. Gee, I think they make everyone happy.

Crusader Rabbit, Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Felix the Cat, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Tom Terrific, Huckleberry Hound, The Flintstones, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Pinocchio,  Ren & Stimpy, Beavis & Butthead, Adventure Time, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

Everyone has their own list, but it all adds up to happiness, doesn’t it? I mean, why cartoons? What other choice do we have?

Eric Homan
Why Cartoons? Because I’ve got a disbelief demanding to be willingly suspended.
When I was a kid, my whole world (i.e. whatever spewed out of the boob tube) was one big cartoonish stew of unreality, but [Read more…]
