Channel Frederator Awards Announce Winners
First Network to Celebrate the Internet Where It Belongs - Online!
NEW YORK, NY - June 10, 2008 -
Channel Frederator, the largest Internet cartoon network in the world and one of the founding networks of Next New Networks, today announced the winners of the Channel Frederator Awards, recognizing extraordinary talents in animation and the internet. The Second Annual Channel Frederator Awards is available to watch online today at http://www.channelfrederatorawards.com/.
Winners were announced in all seventeen Freddies categories that range from “Sick Sick Sick Award” to “Best Flash Film.” Channel Frederator’s prestigious Vanguard Award, went to Dan Meth, a New York-based independent animator.
Iranian animator Marjane Satrapi was awarded “Cartoonist of the Year” for her work on Persepolis, a filmed version of her autobiographical graphic novel. Persepolis also won the Jury Prize for the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Best Animated Film at the 2008 Oscars.
If the Webby’s are the Oscars of the Internet, then think of the Freddies as Sundance. The first annual Channel Frederator Awards in 2007 online broadcast received over two million views. This year, views are expected to double.
Since its launch in 2005, Channel Frederator has quickly become a top destination for animated content. The Awards recognize user-submitted films in a variety of categories. Channel Frederator has received over 2,000 submissions from users and have featured over 400 cartoons. The Channel Frederator Awards include 33 nominated films in a total of 11 viewer-voted categories, as well as 6-juried categories.
Founder of the Channel Frederator Awards, Fred Siebert, is most known for creating the MTV logo, designing the spaceman award at the MTV Music Awards and is the mastermind behind Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards.
“Channel Frederator started as a place for cartoonists to congregate under the idea of creating great animations,” said Fred Seibert, Channel Frederator founder. “We’re honored to have stayed true to these roots and to have been able to highlight some of the world’s undiscovered diamonds.”
