Who will be the 2008 CFA Cartoonist of the Year?
One of my favorite moments at last year’s Channel Frederator Awards was John Lasseter as Cartoonist of the Year. You helped us arrive at the decision when we asked you who had had the biggest impact on animation in 2006? Your suggestions ran the full range of indies to TV creators to feature directors, from folks like Bill Plympton to Craig McCraken to Lasseter himself.
So, it’s time again. There’s been a lot of action on all fronts of cartoons this year. “The Simpsons” finally made it to the big screen, Chowder and Barnyard launched new hits on televsion, and of course, we can’t forget Dan Meth.
But, like everything at Channel Frederator, it’s up to you. I’ve been proud of the filmmakers we’ve been able to feature, but even prouder of the role our viewers play in everything we do.
Please, tell us who’s the Cartoonist of the Year?

Both Pen Ward and Eric Robles are on my short list.

I think we should also have some video game animation categories. It was a great year for animation in games: “Ratchet & Clank: Future Tools of Destruction”, “Team Fortress 2″, and “Loco Rocco” are just a few of the games that had great character animation.

My pick would be Brad Bird!!
Also agree with Floyd about the vid game category. Loco Roco is awesome!! And Castle Crashers!!

You would be remiss in not naming Matt Groening. The Simpsons has inspired more animators than anything since Mickey Mouse and The Flintstones. Equally, how could you ignore Marjane Satrapi and Persepolis? The most radical use of commercial animation of the year?

Floyd and Muk, not to shut down discussions but we’re limiting “COTY” to participants in animated films, whether they be for features, TV, or internet. *Not* that game animators don’t count, just that they’re not the focus of Channel Frederator. At least, as of right now.

I figured video games were outside the scope of the awards, but thought it was worth a mention.
