Bronk & Bongo

A little Background

September 26th, 2006

Well the first few backgrounds are trickling in from our insanely talented bg artist, Dan Chessher. Dan’s cut his teeth on coloring such amazing hit shows like, FAIRLY ODD PARENTS (never heard of it) and DANNY PHANTOM, a show about a dead kid or something.

(CLICK ON ALL OF THEM FOR LARGER PICTURE)

Look at the amazing candy coated colors and textures! Dan did a great job interpreting Jim Worthy’s layout and endured my endless backlash and incessant requests to change this, shade that, texure this. And then change it all back when I realized I was wrong.

NICKELODEON HOLIDAY PARTY

September 15th, 2006

1spongebob-as-elf.jpg

So in between Bronk and Bongo posts I thought I would occasionally post other examples of the toons I’ve done in the past. For some reason the change in weather has made me excited for the upcoming holidays. Yes I know Halloween is next on the calendar but I have more interesting Christmas spots to share than anything else. And recently some of them have been turning up on YOUTUBE so that makes things even easier.

Sunshine and Lollipops

September 5th, 2006

bg1.jpg

Here are a few of our first backgrounds for BRONK and BONGO designed by the mighty Jim Worthy. Jim has done an incredible job nailing down the look we were….um…looking for. Especially when my scant verbal direction consisted solely of “Good” and “Make it…” and for some reason “genitals” and “leave me alone!”. Somehow he managed to make sense of my cryptic ramblings and created some of the best looking environments I have ever seen. Okay, God did a pretty good job too, but Jim is a close second.

ANIMATIC is in the HOUSE

August 26th, 2006

jerry-and-bronk.jpg

Sorry for the diminishing number of posts recently, darn life keeps getting in the way of what really matters, like Blogging, Naked River dancing and polishing my collection of Clara Peller 8×10’s.

Anyway our animatic was finally cut this week and as Alan and I looked this over he made several comments like “Wow the characters sure are stiff.” and “Don’t you find the color a little dull and non existent?” and “This sucks!”. To which I just looked at him curiously and brought my index finger up to my head and twirled it in a circular motion as if to say that he’s crazy. I soon realized that only Alan was in the room and he didn’t appreciate this gesture as much as I did. He just kind of frowned, indignantly.

I guess most people don’t know what an animatic is so after looking it up myself I discovered that a animatic [Read more…]

ANGER MANAGEMENT

July 26th, 2006

pissed-bronk.jpg

If Bronk is angry look out. He may be small but he’s got a lot of attitude and something to prove. Although he never really takes his anger out on anyone but Bongo, who is usually the one to make him mad in the first place. Don’t get him wrong, he loves BONGO like a brother and if anyone but he were to take advantage of him, well, Bronk would be all over them like white on rice in a glass of milk on a paper plate in the middle of a snow storm. He’s like a tiny Tornado of anger.

And speaking of tornados, (bad segue) I’m sorry we haven’t posted in a while. Not only have Alan and I been swamped but we had a small tornado hit my town in NJ last week and I lost power for 4 days and it will be about a month before [Read more…]

KEEP AN EYE ON THESE GUYS…

…they look a little sketchy.

So I found these old sketches of BRONK and BONGO and thought I’d post them so you can see how much they have evolved in the last year.

Pilgrimage

July 7th, 2006

pharmacy-corner.jpg
At the corner of Patriarch Eftimie and Vitasha in Sofia, Bulgaria, at a spot still known as Pharmacy Corner, Perry’s and Lily’s great-grandfather — a promiment bio-chemist, pharmacist, and inventer — owned his drugstore. In recent years it was, until just days ago, a video store. We scouted it as the potential site of the Bronk and Bongo licensed products outpost. Almost time to come home. Bloggingly yours, Manny and Alan.

King of the (ancient) world!

July 3rd, 2006

Twenty-two successive kings of Bulgaria ruled from this spot in Veliko Turnovo in Central Bulgaria. For a place over 1500 years old, it still looks pretty good! As you walk through the gates, a guy at a little homemade keyboard controls a marionette show that seems to have something to do with the history of the site, but the kids mostly liked that one of the puppets squirted water at them when they reached in to give the operator a tip. Tourism hasn’t really taken off here yet — the puppeteer will almost certainly be replaced by a computer someday, and everything will be electronic. And something charming will be lost in the process.

Here’s a wider view — amazing lookout from here. Wish you were all here.
