BUTCH HARTMAN
I’ve been inspired by much in life. Music, comic books, HANNA-BARBERA, toys..etc. But one of my personal modern day inspirations is none other than superstar cartoonist/animator extraordinaire BUTCH HARTMAN . This guy is a talent machine and one of the nicest creators I have ever met. He’s never too busy to hold your hair if you have to puke or make time to give you words of encouragement when you need them. He’s like an all powerful force of nature, or maybe that’s just his hair. It’s rather magnificent on it’s own, all sculptured and tidal wavey.

Here you see Butch demonstrating the VULCAN NERVE pinch on me just before our voice record. Even when trying to get rid of me he can still retain his million dollar smile.
In his honor I present to you this rough animated short that was designed to parody those interstitials from the 80’s Saturday morning cartoon blocks where a celebrity, like Micheal J. Fox, for example would tell you how to “avoid drugs because they are bad for you and go see DOC HOLLYWOOD!”
Thank goodness we had people like Bon Jovi and Markie Post telling us how not to take showers with our toaster or to not pet strangers or take candy from stray dogs! Where would we be without them?

Bloggingly yours, Alan and Manny.

Love it! What was that for? Was that a real interstitial for Nick? Very cool Manny! Very cool!

We had pitched it as a parody of those 80’s Interstitials and got the okay to go ahead. Seeing as Butch is easily the most charismatic of all the creators I’ve ever met and a heck of a nice guy I wanted the first one to feature him. We quickly wrote and put together this rough animation and then it was killed. Oh, well, we have a lot of shorts like that sitting on the shelf that no one will ever see. I may post some here from time to time.

I met Butch when he came out to personally train Nickelodeon artists to draw Fairly Odd Parents. I was impressed with how generous he was with his time and talent. Cool guy.
I worked on the PSA parody short with Manny, I drew Butch and the kids. Seems like a million years ago.

That was cool!!!! What was the animation for? I was thinking about when being in the studio to go visit him but I tought he’d be too busy to have time for me. I guess I can drop by

Butch has always been a force of nature. He looks like Tom Cruise (but nicer), can draw, act, do stand-up comedy and produce plays. Besides that he’s married to an incredibly beautiful woman who stays in shape doing kick-boxing! Some guys have it all. But Butch shares it by establishing a family charity to aid the impoverished world-wide. I’m not a fan, more like a proud Pappa because Butch one of the first young creators to answer the call to submit cartoons to the What A Cartoon! series at Hanna-Barbera years ago. He just got better and better. Your spoof on a friend I’ve known for twenty years was much enjoyed by me. I hope more testimonials will follow.

Everyone has it right. There aren’t many people in the world like Butch, and I’m proud to him and the wonderful family he has.
