Bronk & Bongo

Bronk? Bongo? Nobody home.

February 16th, 2006

At one time, Manny and Alan thought Bronk and Bongo might live in this railroad car. On wheels, they could scoot to any location needed for an adventure. But it erupted into one of their famous quarrels. (Wait until we start THAT blog!) One wanted curtains, the other wanted drapes. Can you imagine? This is how the trouble always starts in a relationship. So the railroad car is up on blocks, and instead the producers have decided to propel the duo from place to place in a manner that they are not prepared to reveal. Not until someone offers someone else an apology. A sincere one. Like he really means it. Fortunately, Bronk and Bongo appear to be getting along just fine. Bloggingly yours, Manny and Alan.

Hey Alan/Manny, you have a nice caboose. And I hardly know you!

Sweet piece….has a real warmth to it. It would have felt classic to have them living there.

Ah the first blog of the day is usually the best. Always happy to see your stuff. Alan you have a real interesting style, I sense a hint of Mary Blair and a dash of Hanna Barbera. A tenament on wheels? A Dog house caboose? You should have called this Hobo Dogs! This could have gone in a whole different direction.

Manny’s the one with the style. I used to draw a little until I discovered my true talent — Inuit Ear Singing, which is a lot like Inuit Throat Singing, except in your ear. (I JUST SAID IN YOUR EAR!) I’d give you a little sample, but “someone” says I should stick to the toon. And apparently, what “someone” says goes.

Its great for fun new locations, the caboose.

No matter how it turns out, im sure it’ll look great.

I love the colors of this bg! They have so much warmth and appeal. Great stuff! And what about some nice vertical blinds as a compromise? :P

Thanks Anne, I’m just trying to compete with the awesome work you and all the others are doing on their toons! The bar has be set very high. I can only hope to measure up.

Beautiful work, as usual! I do like the idea of them living there.

NICE! There is nothing like vintage toons that have that look thats being captured in the work. Hanna Barbera, the classic Pink Panther toons. Bringing that look back is genius.

I like the caboose idea. It really stands out too, thanks to the simple, yet creative use of color. There also seems to be some room for a message in that wooden frame above the door, like “Welcome” or “Bronk and Bongo”. Will there eventually be something written there?

(I hope I’m not the cause of another argument…)

Hey Alex, you are correct that wooden frame was supposed to house their name, which at the time was NUTTIN’ BROS if you can believe that! They were kind of like grifters that went from town to town causing trouble then they would have to roll their train car out of town when things went inevitably wrong. And I already apologised to Alan, he’s just being stubborn.

…..or is the name above the door “B & B’s,” naturally sparking the episode where someone mistakes it for a Bed and Breakfast, and then Bronk and Bongo play along–extremely badly.

Can’t you imagine their zany antics played out in the roles of Bizarro Bellboy, Crazy Concierge, and Rambunctious Room Service? Oh the comedy that ensues!

Manny and Alan, love the new development and drawing.
(to be sung Neil Young style:) Keep on rockin’ in the ‘toon world.

I really dig the caboose idea, it feels like an old fashioned cartoon character home. Like Magilla lived at the pet shop, Wally at the Zoo and Bronk and Bongo in the caboose.
Glad you guys decided not to go with Nuttin’ Bros. Sounds like a Peanut Butter company. Not as catchy.

A splendid image of a dwelling! Nothing like tight quarters for 2 nutty hounds.

The train car is lovely, if not a little femmy and well kept. I mean don’t see either of them keeping a place that clean……….anyway……..Here’s one for you guys. I know nothing about the characters but which one of you is more BRONK and which one is more BONGO?

Hmmm, an interesting question. If my partner were anyone else but Alan, I’d say I was more of a BRONK, the ALPHA DOG, but I must say Alan is quite brilliant, so that reduces me to more of a BONGO, the BETA DOG. And as we know, no one uses BETA anymore…

Are you sure this isn’t from a GOLDEN BOOK? It makes me feel like a kid when I look at it.

You’re outta control with this great looking BG!
Jeff

The “wafting” bg touches that anchor the focal point… Great imprint, guys! Oh, re: drapes v. curtains… Newspaper, definitely.
