Larry Huber, co-creator of “Bitboy” is in Korea right now checking in on his show which is being animated over there, but he has provided us with some terrific stills. Here are a few background layouts of Dr. Dee’s laboratory. There are plenty more where these came from, and I’ll be helping to post in Larry’s absence. When Larry gets back from his Korean excursion, I may even get a quote from him!

Just like their live-action peers, starring characters in animation get all the press. Every TV Guide log line, every press photo, promotional art, even the name of the series all contain the star players. Pity the poor incidental characters that give spice and life to a cartoon, especially an action show like Dr. Dee & BitBoy. Consider, for example, Pickle Cop.

This strange but driven anti-villain is just trying to do his job no matter how distasteful. Dr. Dee owes many debt payments for funds borrowed to confront the Evil Black-Violet and his schemes. But debts must be paid and it’s Pickle Cop’s job to collect them. Why is this character a pickle? I don’t know. The Korean creators will only say that it’s because he’s funny looking. That he is. Funny-looking, grumpy, agressive, dim-witted but peristent, Pickle Cop is one awesome Gerkin! Limited to only one sequence where he [Read more…]

The animatic has been finished by GIMC, the Korean partner studio, and I’ve sent along my comments. The original storyboard was too long and they did a great job of cutting it down close to the required length. Unfortunately, my comments may have lengthened it again! Casting is the next item on the list of processes to go through. It was originally thought the casting would be done out of Hollywood. Upon further study, we’re going to seek to cast all the voice talent in Seoul. Hopefully, this will give us a final product closer to the authentic Korea concept. Besides, I might get a trip to Asia out of the deal.
Once the voices are locked in, the [Read more…]

Luckily, creators Kong and Jun together with Director Choi have been working on background and character designs for the show. These elements will be necessary to move into layout and animation after Director Choi times out the final dialogue recording onto the exposure sheets.
