Flavio is locked too!

Flavio

November 30th, 2006

pdvd_002.jpg

Finally got the film locked and it came out great!
It was pretty easy to cut down as I was only 20 seconds over.

Animation was provided by Wang Films and they did a fantastic job!

In other news, I’ve decided that I want to explore recasting Flavio’s voice…I like my voice but in the end I am not sure it goes to 11.
More on that later.

P.S. If you don’t get the “11″ reference watch Spinal Tap

Who Is The Channel Frederator Cartoonist Of The Year?

Channel Frederator Blog

November 30th, 2006

1296.jpg

We need your help.

One of things we’re most looking forward to as part of The Channel Frederator Awards on January 24th is to recognize the person who the cartoon communty at large feels has made the most people in the world pay attention to animation in 2006. Now, we have some thoughts as to who that person should be (although there is some internal debate among the Frederator camp), but we’d really like to hear some suggestions from you. Is it the head of a major studio or some indie animator working out of her basement? A TV storyboard artist, the director of a theatrical feature, or the developer of some new animation software program? You tell us who you think it should be. And why. Finally, if you disagree with someone’s opinion (including ours), we want to know that, too.

So post your thoughts below. We want to hear who you think should be honored as the very first Channel Frederator Cartoonist of the Year.

As always, thanks for your opinions.

Eric

“Max and the Pigeon Incident”, submitted by Dave Wasson: A Channel Frederator Featured Film

Channel Frederator Blog

Episode 58
maxpigeonincident.jpg

It’s another average day at the office, until a pesky pigeon steals Max’s pencil. Watch as Max embarks on a death defying journey to get back his #2.

For those of you unfamiliar with Dave Wasson’s work, and where on Earth he came from, some of his credits include: Oh Yeah! Cartoons, “Max and His Special Problem”, featured on Episode 13 of Channel Frederator. “Max” also won an Emmy. Wasson also created the Oh Yeah! short series, “Tales From the Goose Lady”, with “Hamsel and Grande” being featured on Episode 30. He created and directed the series, “Time Squad”, has won a Clio for his commercial work, and animated the opening title sequence to the film, “Down With Love”.

When asked about “Max and the Pigeon Incident”, Dave filled me in a bit on how he came up with the idea. “Some people say that pigeons just amble along harmlessly with no real goals or purpose. I wanted to do a cartoon to help expose these feathered creatures for the little diabolical bastards they really are!”

Amen to that. And thanks again, Dave. Your work is fantastic.

“Where the Wild Things Are” - CG test from 1983

Channel Frederator Blog

November 30th, 2006

This is a test for a project based on “Where the Wild Things Are”, it featured John Lasseter’s hand animated characters on 3D computer backgrounds done by MAGI Synthevision. This was an early Disney foray into computers, but they didn’t pursue the computer as an artistic tool any further at that time. Pixar (then Lucasfilm) saw the test and did get it; they hired Lasseter.

Turning Chicken

alices-egg-plant.jpg

alices-egg-plant-2.jpg

Early Disney. Prehistoric Disney. Today’s Birdbrain Week installment is a 1925 episode in Uncle Walt’s pre-Mickey series, the Alice Comedies. These silent films combined the antics of a live action little girl with cartoon characters who never seemed to do anything once. The economies of the era forced pioneer animators to recycle their drawings over and over and over — if somebody does one bit of business, rest assured they’ll do the same thing three or four times before the shot is over.

“Alice’s Egg Plant” doesn’t have many big laughs, but its chicken coop set-up is cute, and the plot resolution is rather clever. At simple face value, this one would normally be, at the very least, pretty entertaining. But considering (A.) the story concerns a communist agitator urging the hens at Alice’s egg mill to go on strike, and (B.) Disney’s future labor union dealings, the whole affair becomes positively fascinating. Note that our sympathy is squarely on the side of management, even though Alice’s straw boss buddy, Julius the Cat … uhhh… whips the employees!

Completely useless trivia factoid! Disney went through several little ‘Alices’ in the course of the series, but this is the one and only entry to feature a six year old actress performing under the delightful stage name Dawn O’Day. One more name change and Miss O’Day would grow up to be a fairly famous leading lady, and Oscar nominee, Anne Shirley.
